Peter Thiele celebrates ten years as President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe

Since 2012, Peter Thiele has been at the helm of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe, which forms part of Hamburg-based Sharp Electronics GmbH, and now celebrates ten years as the President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe.

As the President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe, Peter Thiele is responsible for the EMEA strategy of one of the largest providers of solar modules in the world. Peter Thiele’s appointment to the position in 2012 honoured his outstanding work, while at the same time reflecting the increasing significance of the areas he represented towards the success of the business as a whole. In particular, he defines the short and long-term objectives, plans and strategies required in order to ensure that Sharp’s products and services always meet and surpass customer expectations. He oversees the division’s operational business and resources, is in charge of the staff, is responsible for the budget and ensures that all resources are properly managed.

But he has worked at Sharp for many more than 10 years. As a graduate in electronics engineering majoring in optical electronics, he started his career at Sharp Microelectronics Europe (SME) in 1996 as a product manager for electronic components (including solar). In 2003, he was appointed General Manager for the solar group for Germany/Austria, an independent division of Sharp Microelectronics Europe (SME).

One of the highlights for the company over the period was when it became the first company in the world to introduce LCD technology in televisions. Sharp was demonstrating its technological and innovative expertise and revolutionising whole segments like mobile telephony and car interior displays. He switched from this position in 2008 to the role of Executive Vice President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe. Since 2012, Peter Thiele has held the role of President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe.

“Peter Thiele has made a major contribution to the success of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe and it is time to officially honour his work and the enormous positive influence he has had over the development of the solar business over the last few years,” explains Akira Sasaki, General Manager Business Planning & Administration. He adds: “We would like to congratulate Peter Thiele on his 10-year anniversary in the role of President of Sharp Energy Solutions Europe and wish that he continues further successful contributions to the European solar expansion.”

Peter Thiele comments: “After all the years in the industry, including some difficult times, I am still excited about being part of the energy revolution. In recent years, a broader understanding has developed that only renewable energies can be really effective at combating climate change. The parties in the German Parliament who were previously opposed to renewable energies seem to be rethinking their position. The general public is also coming around, with more and more small systems to produce and store electrical energy for self-consumption. The crisis in Ukraine has also provided further momentum. Energy independence can only be achieved with the help of renewable energies. I am proud to have been a member of the Sharp family for so long. With more than 60 years in the industry, Sharp has the longest history of photovoltaics. We are a team of highly motivated, skilled employees, providing the perfect prerequisites for remaining an important player in the market for the next 60 years.”
