Our objectives
At Sharp, we are dedicated to designing and manufacturing products and solutions that incorporate specific environmental characteristics, such as increased use of recycled materials in selected MFP designs and improved energy efficiency in certain display models, as described below.
We develop our products and solutions in line with our internal “Green Product (GP)” design standards, which set measurable environmental design criteria for selected product categories. These standards are reviewed annually and currently cover areas including resource efficiency, energy consumption, chemical management, and repairability and recyclability. Products described as meeting the Green Product criteria conform to the relevant requirements set out in these standards. This internal framework has been developed to support our long-term target of reaching Net Zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 as outlined in the Sharp Sustainability report.

Printers & Photocopiers
Our printers and photocopiers are designed with specific energy‑related characteristics intended to support compliance with applicable national energy efficiency regulations. These products are compatible with the use of recycled paper and provide product‑specific information on carbon footprint indicators, as described below.
A4 Range
Within our A4 range, certain models have been engineered to reduce power consumption during operation, achieving up to a 35% reduction in ready mode and up to a 70% reduction in sleep mode, compared with previous generations.
These models also demonstrate a lower Total Energy Consumption (TEC), with reductions of up to 28% compared to earlier Sharp models, based on internal testing using applicable measurement standards.
A3 Range
The latest A3 models have been designed to include up to 50% recycled plastics in the manufacturing of the base unit, and cardboard packaging is used to help reduce plastic use.
The service life of key components has been extended, which can help reduce maintenance requirements over the product’s lifetime. These measures are intended to support reduced environmental impact and improved recyclability at end of life. In addition, a ‘balance’ power‑saving mode helps minimise energy use while enabling the device to be ready for operation in under 3.5 seconds.
Audio Visual
We focus on designing our Audio-Visual (AV) products to deliver a strong performance whilst factoring in energy efficiency. Whenever possible, we include energy saving features across our range, including selected ePaper solutions, displays, and projectors.
ePaper
Our ePaper displays are battery‑powered and designed to use very little energy. Unlike many traditional digital displays, they only require power when content is updated. When the image stays the same, the display uses no additional electricity.
This makes ePaper a particularly energy efficient option for applications where information is shown for longer periods without frequent changes.
Displays
Sharp desktop, digital signage, and interactive displays are designed with features that help reduce energy use during everyday operation. For example, an integrated Ambient Light Sensor automatically adjusts screen brightness to match the surrounding light, helping avoid unnecessary power consumption.
In addition, a built‑in Human Sensor can lower the display’s energy use when no one is present. In suitable use scenarios, this can support reductions in energy consumption compared to continuous operation, which may in turn reduce associated CO₂ emissions when electricity‑based conversion factors are applied.
Our displays also include preset energy‑saving modes, which can help extend product life cycles and reduce energy consumption even when users do not actively manage the settings.
We also consider a product’s end of life during its design. Our Digital Signage Displays are designed for recyclability, with up to 97.4% of their materials suitable for recycling, supporting a more circular economy.
Projectors
Our laser projectors use solid‑state light source technology designed for efficient operation over a long service life. Because they do not rely on traditional lamps, there is no need for regular lamp replacements, helping to reduce maintenance requirements and material use over time.
The projectors also include a range of energy‑saving features that support lower energy consumption during use. Thanks to the long lifetime of the laser light source, fewer replacement parts are needed across the product’s lifespan, which can help reduce waste and overall operating costs compared to lamp‑based projectors.
When developing our latest projector ranges, we have also focused on compatibility. New models are designed to work with existing lenses and mounting systems from previous generations, making it easier to upgrade performance without replacing additional hardware.
Through ongoing product development, we continue to improve energy efficiency. Compared to earlier models, our latest projectors are designed to use around 10% less energy under comparable operating conditions.
Software & Solutions
Our software and solutions are designed to support more efficient print management by helping organisations reduce waste from unnecessary printing and improve oversight of resource use. These tools provide visibility into print activity and usage patterns, enabling more informed decisions around printing practices.
Synappx Manage
Synappx Manage features a variety of dashboards, one of which is an 'eco-report' which provides data‑based estimates related to device usage—such as the number of pages printed and calculated indicators for associated carbon and water use. These insights are intended to support data‑driven decisions on how devices are used.
Synappx Cloud Print
Synappx Cloud Print is designed to make print workflows easier to manage across different working environments. It includes on‑screen prompts and user guidance intended to discourage unnecessary printing, which can help reduce paper, toner, and energy use during normal operation.
By providing clearer insight into print activity on the dashboard, Synappx Cloud Print supports organisations in managing printing across hybrid and remote working environments, where usage patterns may vary.
Job Accounting II
Job Accounting II offers detailed tracking of print usage data and presents this information in customisable reports. These reports can include indicators such as estimated paper use, energy consumption, and calculated environmental metrics like tree count equivalency and CO₂ emission data, based on defined calculation methods.
By making print‑related data available in a clear and structured format, Job Accounting II supports organisations in evaluating their print activity and making data‑driven decisions in line with their internal objectives and policies.
What do Sharp do for Environmental Management & Product Safety?
Throughout the whole product lifecycle, from early product design to end-of-life disposal, Sharp takes care to ensure that safe measures and practices are in place and adhered to in order to minimise the effect of our actions on the environment.
