Every year, there are events you attend because they’re in the calendar. And then there are events you attend because you need to be in the room. For us, this year’s DynamicsMinds in Portorož, Slovenia, clearly belongs to the second category.
This event is more than a community gathering. It is where ideas are tested, assumptions are challenged, and signals about the future of Microsoft Business Applications become tangible.
The sessions are selected with a strong focus on quality, originality, practical value and credibility. That matters, because the Microsoft ecosystem is entering one of the most significant shifts we’ve seen in years: the move from ERP as a system of record to ERP as a platform for autonomous, agent-driven execution.
A shift confirmed at the source
One of the most valuable aspects of the event was the opportunity to engage directly with Microsoft leadership. In conversations with Cecilia Flombaum, senior leader in Microsoft’s Dynamics 365 business, and Georg Glantschnig, Corporate Vice President for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, the direction became very clear.
Microsoft’s investment in what we can now define as Agentic ERP is deliberate and accelerating. From Cecilia’s perspective, this evolution is not only about introducing new capabilities. It is about changing how transformation is approached. As AI increasingly supports configuration, testing, documentation and validation, ERP programmes will naturally become lighter and faster, shifting the focus away from delivery mechanics towards business outcomes.
From the discussion with Georg, my interpretation is even more explicit. Microsoft is moving with the ambition to become the leading agentic ERP platform within the next three years. Considering the depth of the platform, the integration across data, AI and applications, and the level of investment, this is a direction that is both credible and realistic.
MCP: enabling a new ERP experience
If Agentic ERP is the direction, technologies like the Model Context Protocol (MCP) are key enablers.
MCP provides a structured and secure way for agents to interact with enterprise systems such as Dynamics 365 Finance & Operations. It allows agents to access data, interact with application functionalities, and execute business logic while fully respecting the existing security model and permissions.
This is fundamental.
Agentic ERP is not about bypassing governance. It is about extending enterprise systems in a controlled way. MCP ensures that agents operate within the same rules as users, creating trust and scalability.
The impact on the user experience is profound. ERP is no longer something you navigate step by step. It becomes something that collaborates with you and, increasingly, acts on your behalf.
A new way to approach ERP delivery
This evolution has a direct impact not only on technology, but on how ERP projects are delivered. We discussed how AI-assisted delivery could significantly reduce traditional implementation effort. Activities that historically required substantial manual work can now be accelerated or partially automated. The consequence is not a reduction in value. It is a change in where value is created.
ERP projects can become shorter, lighter and more accessible. But more importantly, they can shift focus towards areas that truly matter for the business: process design, decision-making, and operational transformation.
