Sharp Europe announced that it engaged Zoonou Limited, a CREST-accredited security testing provider, to conduct independent penetration testing of both the Synappx™ Cloud Print web application and its companion iOS and Android mobile applications. The project reinforces Sharp’s commitment to maintaining strong security controls across its cloud ecosystem and safeguarding customer data.
The assessment focused on the security effectiveness of the Synappx Cloud Print platform, including tenant administration, authentication flows, mobile interactions, and network-facing services. Zoonou evaluated the applications using a combination of automated discovery tooling, static analysis, and in-depth manual review to identify potential vulnerabilities and validate areas of good practice.
Initial testing highlighted several effective safeguards already in place. The web application leverages Single Sign-On (SSO) for authentication and tenancy validation, with directory listings disabled and sensitive configuration files not exposed. On mobile, the iOS app uses encrypted binaries and privacy manifest declarations, while the Android app includes root detection, disabled backup/debug modes, and a secure cloud-database configuration. Tests also confirmed that files processed through the print workflow are temporarily stored and not retrievable, supporting secure handling of documents in transit.
